I was thinking lately about ways to make a blog profitable. There seem to be people that can do really good money on that and there seem to exist special services for that like BLOGUN available for russian blogs.

People who have blogs about "dog care" probably make WAY more money with much less traffic cause the people who read their blogs are more into buying stuff for their dogs.

yeah.. was thinking about the same. But maybe some guys found ways and they may share :) because blogging is nice but having the pocket getting thinner from this would be even better and so we would be able to have even more bloggers i am sure.
I think that rather than trying to make money from my blog though, the greater reward is that it will give others, perhaps future employers or future clients, a glimpse into how we think. If I'm every looking for work, and you have enough readers, then proving that you know your stuff (which is what employers/clients seem to want to know rather than all of the degress you may have) is that much simpler.
Plus, I figure I'm helping someone out, so perhaps they'll help me out in the future :) For my 10 bucks a month hosting, I'll suck that up just to help out my fellow developer.
The other thing I have done to earn money from my blog which I have been doing for many months now is to host text link ads from TextLinkAds.com . Very easy to do, and they pay you for hosting the ad, not based on how many clicks you get.
In Russia, a popular exchange links - for example, sape.ru. But Blogun - in my opinion for the majority of bloggers would be of marginal usefulness.
